Editorial Policy

This page explains how the guides on Shave Magazine are written, which sources we rely on, and how we handle updates and corrections. Our guides are written by Eliza Ward and Pavneet Lobana. Shave Magazine is a small independent website; we do not test products hands-on and we do not give products scores or ratings. Read more on our How We Research and Choose Products page.

Sources for health and safety information

When a guide says something about skin, shaving irritation, razor bumps, ingrown hairs or product safety, we base it on these sources, in this order:

  1. Official health bodies and research: the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH, including MedlinePlus), the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and peer-reviewed research.
  2. Plain-language health information from medical organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and the UK’s NHS, used to explain a point from the first group, not on their own.
  3. Manufacturer specifications, used only for product facts such as ingredients, blade type, power source, sizes and warranties.

We do not use Amazon reviews, other review or affiliate websites, forums or social media posts as evidence for health or safety claims.

Claims we do not make

  • We do not say that a product cures, treats or prevents any disease or skin condition, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, razor bumps or ingrown hairs.
  • We do not call a product “non-toxic” or “chemical-free”, and we do not repeat “clinically proven”, “dermatologist-approved” or “FDA-approved” marketing claims for cosmetics.
  • We do not promise that a product is completely safe or guarantee any result.
  • We do not claim hands-on testing, lab testing or expert reviewers.

Citations

Health and safety statements are marked with numbered citations, like [1], that link to a Sources list at the end of the guide. Each source links to the original page so you can check it yourself.

Not medical advice

Our guides are general information, not medical advice. If you have a skin condition, an infection, persistent razor bumps or ingrown hairs, or a reaction to a product, please see a doctor or dermatologist.

Dates and updates

We update a guide when products, prices or official guidance change. Each guide keeps its original published date. The “Last updated” date changes only when we make a real change to the content, not for small fixes or to make a page look new.

Corrections

If you find a mistake or out-of-date information, please tell us through our Contact page. We check every report against the sources above and correct the guide when we find an error.

Independence, affiliate links and guest content

Some links in our guides are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, and we may also earn a commission from other retailers. This does not change the price you pay. Commissions never decide which products we include or how we describe them. We do not accept payment from brands to be included in our guides, and we have no business relationship with any razor or grooming brand we write about. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
