Shaving in the shower can save you time and optimize your shave.
Dermatologists agree that shaving in the shower is the most effective way to shave for several reasons:
The steam rising from your shower helps open your pores, causing facial hair to swell and making it easier to shave.

Another obvious benefit is that water penetrates the hair, causing it to expand and making coarse hairs softer and easier to cut.
Shaving softer hair reduces damage to your blade, making it last longer, and it’s less likely to tear or get cut off at an angle (reducing the likelihood of razor bumps). It may also reduce shaving irritation.
How to Shave in the Shower like a Pro:
- Once in the shower, wet your face. Wait a few minutes for your face to get nice and hot. (On average, it takes 3 minutes for water to penetrate the hair and open the pores.)
- Prepare your Fog-Free Mirror by applying a thin film of soap to the mirror and rinsing it, or use Fogless Mirror Cleaner and Anti-Fog Solution Spray.
- Lather up your face with shaving cream/gel/oil. If you use a combination, start by applying a light coating of shaving oil, then add shaving cream to protect your skin.
- Rinse and heat the razor under the shower stream. Look in the mirror and make your first pass. Repeat until complete.
- Rinse off your face. Rinse the razor, then replace the cap or take it out of the shower and store it in a dry place.
If you want to shave in the shower, you’d better use a fog-free mirror; check out this mirror from Amazon – it has great suction for most surfaces, and even if it falls, it won’t break.
